Haisla-Rio Tinto Alcan Legacy Agreement Working Group Update
As per the terms of the Legacy Agreement recently signed with RTA and the Haisla Nation, Kitamaat Village Council has appointed the following representatives to the Legacy Agreement ‘Working Group’
for the duration of this election term:
• Councilor Ellis Ross (ellisross@haisla.ca)
• Councilor Brenda Duncan (brendaduncan@haisla.ca)
• Councilor Keith Nyce (keithnyce@haisla.ca)
• Alternate - TBA
Rio Tinto Alcan has appointed the following people as their representatives:
• Paul Henning – VP BC Operations and Strategic Projects Western Canada
• Colleen Nyce – Manager Corporate Affairs and Community Relations
• Michel Lemare – Kitimat Modernization Project
• Kevin Dobbin –Alternate – Coordinator Regional Industrial Development, Northwest BC
The working group held its first official meeting on May 28, 2010 at the KVC boardroom to officially
introduce its members, discuss obligations and commitments included in this Agreement, as well as set the dates for future meetings. The group has agreed to meet monthly to begin the process, and then quarterly in the future, to ensure that the obligations and commitments set out in the Legacy Agreement (employment, contracts and procurements, etc.) are being properly addressed by both parties.
In order to assist our Human Resources Department to work with RTA to monitor any Haisla applications to RTA Kitimat Operations, we have asked Lynn Gould (Human Resource Manager for KVC) and Vicki Grant (Training and Benefits) to create a separate data base of our Haisla membership who :
a) are interested in applying for work with RTA, or
b) the Kitimat Modernization Project, and its contractors
c) meet the minimal requirements set out on the application form: Drivers License, Grade 12,
etc. or who fit the contractors requirements for on call laborers
As per the terms of the Legacy Agreement the data base will be provided to RTA on quarterly basis, to
ensure that they have the most current list of Haisla members seeking part time or full time employment with either the Kitimat Operations or with the Kitimat Modernization Project.
For Haisla members interested in applying to RTA Kitimat operations for any positions (or who have
applied on line in the past year), please ensure that you provide the KVC Human Resources Department with your most current resume, contact information, copies of your certificates etc. All applicants are responsible for indicating this information is specific to RTA Kitimat, as well as ensuring that the information is updated every six (6) months, as the KVC Human Resource Department will not forward information that is not kept current.
